Saklıkent Canyon Walk (A Discovery Following the Water)
The Story of the Activity
This is the essential experience that makes Saklıkent what it is: that unforgettable walk through ice-cold waters into the heart of a giant gorge carved by mountains over thousands of years. This is not just a walk; it is to witness the overwhelming power and magnificent beauty of nature up close. Once you get used to the coldness of the water that initially numbs your feet, the majesty of the hundred-meter-high rock walls surrounding you is captivating. As you proceed down this unique corridor where the sun can only filter through a narrow gap and the sky looks like a ribbon, you will feel like an explorer. With every step, you will discover rocks shaped by water, small waterfalls, and sculptures created by nature.

The Experience Step-by-Step
- Entrance and the Platform: After entering the canyon, you walk the first section on a wooden platform built over the creek. This part is great for seeing the power of the water and the entrance to the canyon.
- First Contact with Water: At the end of the platform, you reach the point where the main source of the canyon emerges. From here on, the rest of the walk will be entirely in the water. Be ready to immerse yourself in the ice-cold water all at once!
- Advancing Inside the Canyon: The depth and current of the water vary by season. You will generally walk in knee-deep water, holding onto rocks and taking careful steps.
- Natural Obstacles: Along the way, you may encounter small waterfalls, rocks you need to climb, or deeper spots you might swim through.
- The Return: The canyon is not a one-way route. You can turn back from any point you wish, whenever you feel tired, or from a place where progress becomes difficult. The freedom to walk as far as you want is yours.
- The Power of Nature: The incredible feeling of walking between rock walls hundreds of meters high.
- Natural Therapy: The refreshment provided by walking in ice-cold water, even on the hottest day of summer.
- Spirit of Discovery: The freedom to create your own adventure, not knowing what awaits you around every bend.
- Unique Scenery: The incredible photographic images created when light hits the inside of the canyon.

Tips
Be sure to get a helmet before entering the canyon (usually included in the entrance fee or available for rent). Do not take valuable electronics with you, or keep them in waterproof cases, because it is impossible not to get wet. The rubber shoes sold or rented at the canyon are a better option than ruining your own trainers. The deeper parts of the canyon can be challenging for young children and non-swimmers; spending time in the initial section is safer. Relaxing at one of the "gözleme" (Turkish pancake) restaurants at the canyon entrance after the walk makes for a great finale.
