Just a step away from the crowds of Fethiye lies a hidden paradise where history and nature embrace: Seydikemer. If your time is limited and you want to fit the "must-see" places of this unique geography into a single day, this intense yet delightful itinerary we've prepared is perfect for you. Fasten your seatbelts, because we are embarking on an adventurous journey from the depths of history to the cool waters of the canyons!
Important Note: This route promises a very full day. Starting early in the morning (we recommend leaving Fethiye by 09:00 at the latest) and using a private vehicle will allow you to make the most of the day. Don't forget to bring water, comfortable walking shoes, and a spirit ready for adventure!
Morning (09:30 - 11:30) | First Stop: A Journey into History - Tlos Ancient City
After a pleasant 45-minute drive from Fethiye, we arrive at Tlos, one of the most important and ancient settlements of Lycia. This city, built upon an acropolis, will make you feel as though you are observing the valley from an eagle's nest.
- What to Do? In Tlos, you will be greeted by rock tombs that are home to the legend of the winged horse Pegasus, Roman-era baths, a stadium, and a majestic theater. It is a priceless experience to climb the Acropolis, take in the view, and see the famous temple-like monumental tomb.
- Tip: The cool of the morning is the ideal time of day to climb the Acropolis.
- Tip: Feeding the fish and playing in the water channels is also a fun activity for families with children.
- Gizlikent Waterfall: First, we stop at Gizlikent, a more boutique and hidden paradise. After descending the wooden stairs, a short walk through the ice-cold stream will lead you to the waterfall, offering you wonderful refreshment and a photo opportunity.
- Saklıkent Canyon: Saklıkent, one of Turkey's most famous canyons, will mesmerize you with its grandeur. Don't forget to rent rubber shoes at the entrance to walk in the canyon. After passing the initial platforms over the rushing water, you will have an unforgettable walk through the icy water between the narrowing canyon walls.
- ATV Tour: For those who want to raise the adrenaline level a bit more after the canyon walk, the ATV tours in the area are a fantastic option. This tour on dusty trails and through muddy stream beds around Saklıkent will add some action to your trip.
- What to Do? What makes Pinara unique are the hundreds of rock tombs carved into the side of a mountain like a honeycomb. Especially near sunset, the light of the setting sun hitting this "perforated" cliff face and the ancient theater creates a magical view, an unmissable opportunity for photographers.
- Tip: This is the perfect final stop to digest the day's adventures and listen to the silent spirit of Lycia.
Noon (12:00 - 13:30) | A Cool Break and Lunch: Yakapark
Immediately after Tlos, we proceed to Yakapark, just 10 minutes away. This is a natural paradise built around ice-cold spring waters flowing from the Taurus Mountains, shaded by massive plane trees.
What to Do? You can sit in the wooden pavilions, accompanied by the sound of gushing waters, and have a drink. This is a great lunch spot to recharge before the afternoon's canyon adventure. You can eat fresh trout from the fish farms or a delicious savory pancake (gözleme*).
Afternoon (14:00 - 17:00) | The Heart of the Adventure: Gizlikent and Saklıkent Canyon
After the lunch break, we descend into the heart of the adventure. Gizlikent and Saklıkent are two natural wonders located very close to each other.
Late Afternoon (17:30 - 19:00) | A Peaceful Farewell at Sunset: Pinara Ancient City
To unwind from the day's fatigue and end the adventure on a peaceful note, our final stop is the Ancient City of Pinara. Located about 30-40 minutes from Saklıkent, this city has a much calmer and more mystical atmosphere than the others.
Evening (After 19:00) | Return to Fethiye
After Pinara, following a day full of memories, you can return to Fethiye with a journey of about 45-50 minutes.
Conclusion: This itinerary shows you the diverse richness that Seydikemer offers in a single day: on one hand, thousands of years of history, and on the other, the most generous and wild forms of nature. At the end of this fast-paced day, you will feel tired but spiritually completely refreshed.
