Natural Beauties of Seydikemer: Saklıkent Canyon

In the sun-drenched lands of Seydikemer's Mediterranean coast, there is a cool, shady, and mysterious gateway that opens into the heart of the Taurus Mountains: Saklıkent Canyon. As its name suggests ("Hidden City"), it is a "hidden city" waiting to be discovered, patiently carved by the Eşen River through limestone rocks over thousands of years. At approximately 18 kilometers long and with heights exceeding 300 meters in places, this massive gorge is not just a tourist spot, but an unforgettable experience where you will witness the power and artistry of nature.

A Journey into the Heart of the Canyon

Your adventure begins by walking on the wooden platforms built over the gushing spring water at the entrance of the canyon. From your very first steps, you will feel the coolness of the ice-cold air flowing out from within the mountain. At the end of the platform, the main walking trail of the canyon begins, and here you leave civilization behind to enter a world of water and rock. The water, so cold it will shock you when you first dip your feet in, soon turns into a refreshment you will be grateful for in the summer heat. Moving along the canyon floor requires a small adventure of resisting the water's power and keeping balance on slippery stones; for this reason, water-friendly, non-slip rubber shoes are the most important part of this discovery and can be easily rented from the shops at the entrance.

As you walk between the massive rock walls where you see the sky only as a thin blue ribbon, you will be amazed at how small you feel. This unique walk inside the canyon does not have a specific endpoint. You have the freedom to go as far as you want and turn back from the point where you feel tired or don't wish for more adventure. During this journey, you can discover smooth rock surfaces shaped by water, small cascades, and natural pools where you can take a mud bath.

A National Park and a Habitat

Saklıkent has been protected as a National Park since 1996. This means it is not just a tourist attraction but also a valuable natural heritage hosting its own unique ecosystem. The canyon and its surroundings are an important habitat for many species of plants and animals. Respecting this delicate balance during your visit ensures that we can leave this gift of nature in the same beauty for future generations. After a long and refreshing walk, sitting on the wooden platforms built over the creek at the canyon entrance, eating a hot gözleme, and drinking tea is the most beautiful ritual to complete this magnificent day.
