Bağlıağaç Neighborhood

About Neighborhood

Located to the southeast of Seydikemer, nestled on the slopes of the majestic Mount Akdağ, lies Bağlıağaç—a neighborhood that draws its name and character from nature itself. At an altitude of approximately 560 meters, with its houses scattered throughout the pine forest, it offers a completely different atmosphere from the settlements on the plain. The air is cooler, nature is rich, and life is intrinsically intertwined with the forest.

The economy of Bağlıağaç is built on three fundamental pillars provided by its geography: agriculture, livestock, and forestry. On fragmented and scattered plots of land, farmers cultivate grains like wheat and barley, as well as the region's characteristically fragrant anise, delicious apples, pears, and peaches. Its tomatoes, available in summer and autumn, are particularly famous. The rich flora of Mount Akdağ provides a unique environment for beekeeping, and the honey produced here is renowned for its quality. Livestock farming is primarily focused on cattle. As a forest village, a portion of the population also earns a livelihood from forestry products. The agricultural development cooperative, established to organize these activities, is the community's greatest support. The local market, held on Fridays, serves as the heart of both commerce and social life.

Bağlıağaç is also notable for its strong community bonds. A powerful testament to this is the story of residents who migrated to Fethiye years ago and established their own neighborhood (Menteşeoğlu) together. Today, the community's highland pastures (yaylas), such as Dikencik and Kuruova, keep ancient traditions alive by welcoming seasonal highlanders during the summer months.

Important Note: A primary challenge for the community is the poor condition of the asphalt road that provides access to the neighborhood. This can cause difficulties in transporting their valuable agricultural products to market and impacts daily life.
