Bayir Neighborhood
About Neighborhood
In contrast to the low-lying plains and valleys of Seydikemer, Bayır Mahallesi is the destination for those wishing to step into a cool and refreshing world. Located northeast of the district center at an average altitude of 974 meters, Bayır is nestled on the slopes like an eagle's nest, perfectly embodying the description of a "village within the forest." This place offers a life away from the Mediterranean heat, under the shade of pine trees and in the clean highland air.
A Life Shaped by Forestry, Livestock, and Beekeeping
Bayır's scattered and fragmented agricultural lands are an indicator of how intertwined life is with nature here. The economy is largely shaped by the rhythms of forestry and animal husbandry. However, one of the most important sources of income that makes Bayır special is beekeeping. The honey produced by bees that feed on the rich flora of the lush green plateaus and pristine forests is one of the region's most valuable products. In addition to these traditional livelihoods, some families are also engaged in small-scale transport and haulage services. The village has joined forces with its neighbor, Ceylan, under a joint agricultural development cooperative.
A Deep-Rooted Community and Changing Times
The outward migration of the population over time to larger centers like Fethiye, Antalya, and İzmir is a reality that has shaped the social fabric of the village. Receiving no inward migration, Bayır maintains its homogeneous structure, a place of deep-rooted traditions upheld for generations by prominent families such as the Kızılkayalar, Doğanlar, and Gürhanlar, and characterized by strong neighborly bonds. Despite its dispersed settlement pattern, it continues to offer educational opportunities to its younger generations on their own land with its primary and middle schools.
