Boğaziçi Neighbourhood

About Neighborhood

As you leave the fertile plains of Seydikemer and head southwest towards the Mediterranean Sea, you reach a point where the landscape's character transforms, welcoming you to the Boğaziçi neighbourhood. This area is part of the legendary Yediburunlar region (The Seven Capes), a unique settlement built on a valley ridge facing the sea. With its dispersed architecture, the houses seem as if they were sprinkled across the slopes.

A Life Shaped by Geography

The economy and lifestyle of Boğaziçi are directly shaped by its rugged and steep geography. Limited irrigation opportunities have naturally guided the local people towards activities best suited for this terrain. Consequently, livelihoods here are largely based on small livestock farming (goats and sheep) and beekeeping. Herds of goats and sheep roam the hillsides, while the rich flora of the pine and maquis shrublands provides the source for delicious honey. The limited agriculture is confined to resilient crops such as wheat, barley, and olives.

A Deep-Rooted Community

Boğaziçi's population has remained relatively stable over the years, forming a strong community of long-established families (Keller, Çavuşlar, Abbasiler, Koçlar) with no inward migration. Although younger generations may move to larger centers like Fethiye for work, the essence and tranquility of the neighbourhood are preserved. With its beautiful rural hamlets like Yediburun, Ortaköy, Avlan, and İkiarlı, Boğaziçi is a hidden world for those seeking a quiet and authentic life in harmony with nature.
