Çaykenarı Neighborhood
About Neighborhood
To the south of Seydikemer, nestled in the fertile valley floor shaped by the historic Eşen River (the ancient Xanthos), lies the settlement of Çaykenarı. Situated on the banks of the river it is named after, this community is established far from forested areas, on expansive lands entirely devoted to agriculture. Its location on the main coastal highway to Antalya makes it not only an agricultural hub but also a part of the region's primary transportation network.
The economy of Çaykenarı is defined by the generosity of its plain. Across vast fields, the shimmer of modern greenhouses mixes with the crimson of pomegranate orchards and the gold of wheat fields. Cattle breeding holds particular importance, and the Agricultural Development Cooperative, founded to organize production and support local farmers, symbolizes the community's collective strength.
Çaykenarı is not a single village centre but rather a mosaic of rural hamlets, each with its own identity. Settlements such as Karaömerler, Güzeller, Karadereliler, Sivriler, and Göçebeler—a name meaning "Nomads" that directly references the region's Yörük heritage—form this rich tapestry. This settled agricultural life gives way to an ancestral tradition in the summer months, as residents migrate to the lush high plateaus (yayla) of Girdev and Tezli to cool off and graze their animals. Çaykenarı is a dynamic and productive neighbourhood that practices modern agriculture on fertile soil while preserving its deep-rooted identity and yayla culture.
