Ceylan Neighborhood
About Neighborhood
Located to the northeast of Seydikemer, Ceylan is a highland village nestled against the magnificent foothills of the Akdağ Mountains, welcoming visitors with its crisp, cool air and authentic atmosphere. Situated at an average altitude of 1175 meters, the community exhibits the classic character of a mountain settlement with its houses scattered across the slopes, offering both a tranquil lifestyle and thousands of years of history.
The economy of Ceylan is shaped by the opportunities presented by its mountain geography. Agricultural products that thrive in cooler climates, such as wheat, barley, beans, and particularly apples and anise, define the region's farming identity. Small livestock grazing on the pastures complete this pastoral landscape. A portion of the local population maintains the vital economic and cultural link between the mountains and the plains by seasonally migrating to the coastal areas of Kumluova and Karadere to work in the greenhouses during the winter.
What makes Ceylan truly unique is a hidden treasure it holds within its borders. The ancient Lycian city of Oenoanda, located near the İncealiler hamlet, carries the whispers of history into the present day. The gravel road leading to this ancient site takes visitors not just to an archaeological ruin, but to a past preserved in the silence of the mountains. Understanding the village's current demographics also requires a look back; the separation of Sahil Ceylan (Coastal Ceylan), which was once part of the village, is a significant social dynamic that explains the shifts in its population.
