Doğanlar Neighborhood

About Neighborhood

At the northeastern edge of Seydikemer's geographical boundaries, bordering the province of Antalya, lies a neighbourhood perched like an eagle's nest: Doğanlar. As one of the most remote settlements, 57 kilometres from the district centre, Doğanlar uses this distance to cultivate a unique identity and atmosphere. Its most defining feature is that it requires no separate summer pasture ("yayla"); it is, by its very nature, a natural yayla with its cool, clean air year-round.

Unlike many settlements in the region, the houses in Doğanlar are not dispersed but form a clustered, compact community on a hillside. This settlement pattern has fostered a strong culture of neighbourliness and solidarity among its residents. Life here is shaped by the conditions of high altitude. The main sources of income are traditional agriculture, cultivating high-elevation crops such as wheat, potatoes, anise, and chickpeas, and livestock farming primarily for family subsistence.

The tranquil and self-sufficient life in Doğanlar also confronts the realities of the modern economy. The younger population, in particular, migrates for work to regions like Ortaca, where more intensive agricultural activities like greenhouse farming are prevalent, with some settling there permanently. This makes Doğanlar an authentic mountain village that embodies both sides of life: a place where roots and traditions are preserved, while its inhabitants seek new paths for their future.
