Gölbent Neighborhood

About Neighborhood

Located in the southwest of Seydikemer, where the classic Mediterranean maquis shrubland slopes meet fertile farmland, lies Gölbent – a story of transformation. Formerly known as Gülümbet, this settlement is inspiring for its journey from the challenging conditions of the past to the modern agriculture of today.

Until recently, Gölbent's economy was based on drought-resistant tobacco and small livestock farming. However, with the improvement of irrigation facilities, the destiny of the community was rewritten. Tobacco fields began to give way to modern greenhouses that now invigorate the local economy. This shift is the clearest indicator of how open the hardworking people of Gölbent are to innovation. Yet, traditions are not entirely abandoned; olive trees persist as the ancient landlords of this soil. The local olive oil factory continues to operate as a proud emblem of this heritage, becoming the economic and social heart of the region during harvest time.

Sprawling over a large area, Gölbent has a dispersed settlement pattern with six distinct rural quarters, such as Ali Hocalar and Tomalar. This offers each household its own private space and a life intertwined with nature. In the summer months, the community continues the centuries-old Yörük culture by moving to the lush high plateaus (yayla) of Seki, Temel, and Gökbel to find cooler air and graze their animals. Gölbent is a dynamic and deeply rooted Seydikemer neighbourhood that masterfully blends the legacy of the past with a vision for the future of agriculture.
