İzzettin

About Neighborhood

In the southwest of Seydikemer, scattered across the slopes of a valley descending towards the Eşen Plain, lies İzzettin—a place of quiet, productive life with a profound history. Its former name, "Papaz" (Priest), carries a silent whisper of the rich, layered history of these lands from the pre-Republic era. Today's İzzettin is a home for hardworking people, built upon this historical legacy.

Unlike many settlements in the region, İzzettin has no "yayla" (highland pasture). This fact fundamentally shapes the local culture. Life here does not move to cool high pastures in the summer; instead, it is rooted year-round in these fertile valley slopes at an altitude of 275 meters. This settled lifestyle is evident in its dispersed structure, formed by several rural hamlets like Omarlar, Yanıkköy, and Kızılbağ. Each household maintains an intimate relationship with its own land and nature.

The backbone of the economy is agriculture and animal husbandry. Silver-green olive groves stretch across the slopes, while fields are cultivated with barley, vetch, and various vegetables. However, one of the most significant sources of income that makes İzzettin special is beekeeping. The honey produced by bees feeding on the valley's rich flora carries a unique flavour and aroma specific to this land. As a departure from the nomadic culture of the highlands, İzzettin is an address dedicated to the tranquil rhythm of the valley and the bounty its soil provides.
