Kabaağaç

About Neighborhood

Located on the southwestern edge of Seydikemer, strategically positioned between the district's fertile lands and the world-renowned turquoise blue of Ölüdeniz, lies Kabaağaç. This neighbourhood, whose former name "Köşk" translates to "mansion" or "pavilion," is now a dynamic settlement representing the modern face of agricultural production. Its proximity to one of Fethiye's most popular resorts gives Kabaağaç the unique dual identity of a peaceful village and a gateway to the world of tourism.

The dispersed settlement pattern across the slopes of Kabaağaç has transformed in recent years into a landscape dominated by gleaming greenhouses. On this land, where cotton, olives, and the famous "alabarbunya" beans were traditionally grown, modern greenhouse farming has become the driving force of the economy. This transformation has also left a cultural mark; the Marmalı high plateau (yayla), once used for cooling off in the summer, is no longer in use, having been replaced by the year-round labour demands of greenhouse cultivation. This demonstrates that Kabaağaç has made a pragmatic, future-oriented choice while remaining connected to its roots.

While livestock farming, particularly of sheep and goats, remains important, Kabaağaç is not only a production hub but also holds the potential that comes with being right next to a major tourist centre. It offers a unique balance for those who wish to live in harmony with nature and the land, without disconnecting from the vibrancy of civilization and social life.
