Kınık
About Neighborhood
Located in the northeast of Seydikemer at an altitude of approximately 1200 meters, Kınık is an authentic highland (yayla) neighbourhood offering the cool, fresh air of the Taurus Mountains. Formerly known as Zorban, this settlement is a sanctuary for those escaping the oppressive summer heat and a peaceful retreat for those seeking solitude in nature during winter. With its dispersed structure spread across a wide mountain slope, Kınık offers its residents spaciousness and unique vistas.
The true magic of Kınık is hidden in its living history. The heart of the neighbourhood beats at the Zorban spring, named after the old settlement, where a monumental plane tree stands. This magnificent tree, estimated to be around 1000 years old, along with three others believed to be of a similar age, are living monuments that have witnessed generations of village life and gathered stories in their shade. This historical fabric is further enriched by the ancient whispers of glorious Lycian cities, such as Tlos, located near the neighbourhood's borders.
Life in Kınık is shaped by the rhythm of the seasons. While some families temporarily migrate to work in the greenhouses along the coast during the winter months, the village experiences the opposite flow in the summer. Summer residents from Fethiye and Seydikemer come to breathe in the coolness of Kınık. This high altitude also defines the economy; instead of citrus fruits, delicious apples, wheat, barley, and anise are grown here. With its monumental trees, cool climate, and a geography that carries the spirit of ancient times, Kınık promises much more than an ordinary village.
