Söğütlüdere
About Neighborhood
On the northwestern border of Seydikemer, adjacent to the districts of Fethiye and Gölhisar, lies Söğütlüdere—a valley that derives its name and identity from the clear waters flowing down from the mountains. Formerly known as "Gülmedere," this area is a tranquil and remote corner where life is integrated with nature, featuring a dispersed settlement pattern and small agricultural plots scattered within the forest. Situated on a slope at an average altitude of 430 meters, the neighbourhood is home to a community loyal to its roots, despite outward migration.
The economy of Söğütlüdere showcases a successful blend of traditional and modern production. While crops like cotton, sesame, peanuts, and olives are grown in fields bordering the forest, small livestock farming and beekeeping are also important livelihoods. However, what makes the neighbourhood unique in the region are its two major trout farming facilities, which have turned the quality of its water into an export success. The trout, meticulously raised in these farms, reach dining tables across the world, particularly in European countries. This highlights that Söğütlüdere is not just a local producer but also a centre of quality recognized in the international market.
By preserving its traditional culture through its highland pastures (yaylas) like Gavurdöndü and Belbaşı, Söğütlüdere combines the tranquillity of a mountain village with a modern production approach capable of reaching global markets, making it one of Seydikemer's most interesting and dynamic settlements.
