Mount Eren, Seydikemer
While the coastline in southern Seydikemer sparkles under the sun, a majestic giant stands guard over the region in the northeast: the 2863-meter-high Mount Eren. As one of the closest and most beloved winter escape destinations for residents of the Aegean and Mediterranean, Eren Dağı was once home to a popular ski center where one could ski until May. The mountain, rising just behind the Seki Plateau, had created unforgettable memories for winter sports enthusiasts with its three slopes of varying lengths.
However, in recent years, the ski center has fallen silent. This is due to several factors, including climatic changes in the region, the temperate effect of a nearby dam lake which has reduced the mountain's ability to retain snow, and the fact that the facility is no longer in operation. The local community and ski lovers are eagerly and hopefully waiting for the day this beautiful resort will be revived.
Nevertheless, even though the ski lifts on Eren Dağı may be still, the mountain itself continues to call out to adventure and nature enthusiasts. Even if the ski center is not active, Mount Eren today offers some of the most spectacular trekking and nature hiking routes in Seydikemer. In the summer, it's a reason for a trip in itself just to cool off and view the Eşen Plain from the summit. In winter (when it snows), it's worth a visit simply to enjoy the snow and photograph the landscape blanketed in white. For now, Eren Dağı may be a "sleeping winter giant," but it maintains its place as the peak of Seydikemer with its year-round majesty and natural beauty.
